Update or Amend a Comprehensive Plan
Below are the steps to update or amend a Comprehensive Plan
Based on DCA requirements:
The Regional Commission (R.C.) notifies the Local Government (L.G) when the Plan is due for an update.
The L.G Inform the citizens about the beginning of the process through advertisements in the local newspaper, social media, notice information board, etc.
The L.G. conducts a public hearing to inform and invite citizens, stakeholders, business owners, and organizations to participate in the plan update.
The L.G. conducts other meetings or workshops to identify issues and needs. Assessment of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats must be advertised.
The L.G Inform the citizens about the presentation of the Plan draft through advertisements in the local newspaper, social media, information notice board, etc.
The R.C.Conducts a second public hearing to present the Plan draft and for final comments. Contiguous Counties and Cities are recommended to be informed, and subsequent comments can be sent to R.C. or the L.G.
The The R.C. will review the Plan Draft and obtain a letter from the L.G. for approval to submit to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA).
DCA reviewed the Plan draft within 30 days and decided on approval or disapproval if the plan draft does not adequately address the Minimum Standards for a Local Comprehensive Plan.
If the Plan is approved, the L.G. will adopt the Plan through a resolution, and a copy of the resolution will be included in the approved Plan and sent back to DCA.
The last stage completed the planning process of updating or amending the Local Comprehensive Plan.
