A Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) is a meticulously crafted plan aimed at fostering regional economic growth. It is the outcome of a planning process owned by the region, with the objective of enhancing the area's capacity and guiding its economic prosperity and resilience. The CEDS plays a vital role in establishing and sustaining a robust economic ecosystem by facilitating the development of both physical infrastructure and intangible resources that contribute to the success of individuals, businesses, and communities. The CEDS serves as a platform for meaningful discussions and debates among individuals, organizations, local governments, educational institutions, and private industries, enabling them to identify and prioritize capacity-building initiatives that would best support economic development in Southwest Georgia. It is imperative for regions to update their CEDS every five years to be eligible for assistance from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) through its Public Works and Economic Adjustment Assistance programs. Additionally, a CEDS is a prerequisite for receiving the designation of an Economic Development District (EDD) by the EDA.
